
Staff - Musical Director Position
(Music/Singing Instructor)

Gorge Repertory Theatre
We are seeking a talented, professional, enthusiastic,
positive, flexible Musical Director for our summer performing
arts camp. The MD has many duties and responsibilities:

- Serving as a pre-summer consultant.

- Preparing with the Artistic Director in pre-production of
the shows and curriculum via email or phone.

- Teaching music classes. Curriculum is flexible, but
suggestions are basic theory, sight singing, singing parts,
performing group songs from musicals, musical interpretation,
music of different cultures, coaching individual songs, basic
singing techniques, blend, harmony, musical theatre history, and
rehearsing the music from the musical. Classes are currently
planned to be four groups of 16 students, 5 days a week, 4 hours
a day starting at noon (53 minute classes). One hour of private
classes a day is also a possibility. Teaching experience is a
must.

- Musically directing and playing the musical(s). Rehearsals
are in the evening, 3 hours a night, 5 days a week. There are
some weekend rehearsals. Excellent piano skills are a must.
Professional experience is necessary. A degree is required, a
Masters degree is preferred. We produce about two dozen musicals
and non-musicals every year. Feedback on selection of the shows
is appreciated.

- Many of the mornings and weekends are free, though we
request that the MD participates in some of the weekend outdoor
sports and activities. A great attitude and flexibility are
vital for this position.
For the above, the Musical Director receives:

- A round-trip plane ticket, or travel reimbursement.

- A private bedroom with a shared bathroom in the main cabin.
-
- Food for the entire length of the contract on the campus
with the campers/staff.

- Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening is usually OFF.

- Weekly salary of $300-475/week, 7 1/2 week contract (June 26
- August 15, 2005).

- Many summer activities paid for, such as field trips.
