Our 12th Season!
The Columbia Gorge School of Theatre, located in White Salmon, Washington, seeks a professional, enthusiastic, positive staff for its summer performing arts camp. 7 1/2 week contract (June 22 - August 11, 2008) for professional training and production of shows. Equity contracts are possible (CGST currently uses a Guest Artist contract). CGST is located on the 142 acre Blue Moon Ranch, which is surrounded by 10,000 acres of forest. Summer activities include hiking, swimming in Standing Bear Pond, and other sports. CGST trains students ages 11 - 18 from all over the country and around the world. Each year, about 125 students from 15 - 20 states and 3 - 4 foreign countries attend CGST! Classes are in Meisner Acting, Music, Body Awareness, Singing, Dance, Linklater Voice, TV/Film Acting, The Biz, and Theatre Potpourri taught by camp counselors. HEAD CHEF/COOK: we are seeking an experienced Head Cook for our summer theatre camp. Cook 3 meals a day, 5 days a week. Must have experience, especially with cooking for large groups (up to 80), menu planning, and ordering. A positive attitude is a must! Excellent pay! MUSICAL DIRECTOR / INSTRUCTOR: Duties include teaching music and singing classes, musically directing the musicals, and playing the shows. Piano skills, teaching and professional experience a must. DANCE DIRECTOR / CHOREOGRAPHER / INSTRUCTOR: Duties include teaching dance classes (jazz, tap, ballet) and Direct/Choreograph the musicals. Teaching and professional experience a must. CAMP COUNSELORS / TECHNICIANS / INSTRUCTORS: Duties include creating outdoor activities, offering supportive counseling to the students, doing technical theatre work on the shows, teaching Theatre Potpourri and Wild Card classes, and staying with & supervising the students during off hours. Some kitchen responsibilities required. Production skills preferred: guest directors, guest actors, lighting designer/board operators, sound designers, set designer/builders, stage managers, musicians to play the show, etc. Camp counselors should also have teaching abilities: stage combat, Suzuki, masks, tai chi, mime, improv, stand up comedy, Alexander, Grotowski, martial arts, acrobatics, theatre history, directing, speech, playwriting, Shakespeare, tech theatre, puppetry, etc. Life guards are always sought, as are Guitarists. PLEASE NOTE, THE CAMP COUNSELORS STAY IN THE ROOMS WITH THE STUDENTS AT NIGHT, THUS LEADING TO LESS FREE TIME AND LESS PRIVACY.

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR / CAMP COUNSELOR / INSTRUCTOR: Duties include organizing the Camp Counselors' work on the shows, fulfilling the technical needs for the two dozen shows we produce in a summer, and using various technical skills to benefit our season. Production skills required: lighting designer/board operator, sound designer, set designer/builder, stage manager, costume designer, etc. TD sleeps in the room with the students, and will serve as a Camp Counselor & Instructor. TD will often run errands for the productions and for CGST's needs, so a driver's license is required. The TD gets paid in the range of the camp counselors. KITCHEN ASSISTANT: we are seeking a Kitchen Assistant for our summer theatre camp. Assist with cooking 3 meals a day, 6 days a week. Position requires cleaning the kitchen, prepping meals, working with camp counselors/intern/apprentices in the kitchen, and washing dishes. A positive attitude is a must! INTERNSHIPS: Duties include tech theatre work, ranch work, assisting camp counselors with activities, and kitchen work. Interns do not attend classes, do not pay tuition, and are generally paid a stipend (room and board are provided). Possible performance opportunities, as well as possible college or high school credit. Specific internships are possible, including Intern Counselors, Assistant to the Executive Director, Assistant to the Youth Director, Assistant to the Technical Director, and Assistant to the Artistic Director. We prefer interns to be available for the entire 12 week contract -- or as much of it as possible. Interns are generally 18 - 19 years old. Very limited time off (email us for details). APPRENTICESHIPS: Duties include tech work, ranch work, assisting camp counselors with activities, and kitchen work. Apprentices are a student in a session (be it a two week or a four week session) and work the rest of the summer. They pay reduced tuition fees and have possible performance opportunities in the other shows. Apprentices receive the college or high school credit that is offered with the session they attend. Room and board provided throughout the summer. Very limited time off (email us for details). Apprentices are generally ages 16 - 17. Please send in a STAFF APPLICATION and a STUDENT APPLICATION.
