Besides being a great opportunity to learn about theatre and explore the outdoors, CGST provides a supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to grow and build close friendships. Mornings and afternoons are filled with theatre classes. Rehearsal takes place after dinner. Four week programs also offer students the opportunity to experience CGST weekends which are packed full of fun and unique activities planned by our camp counselors that foster teamwork and confidence in every student.
~ COUNSELOR IN TRAINING PROGRAM ~
The Counselor in Training (CIT) program is designed for older campers who want the benefit of certain staff responsibilities while still being a student at CGST. CIT's enroll as Advanced Track campers, but are expected to do a few additional duties and to take on more of a staff-like role. Accordingly, they will take part in the CIT Leadership Academy: A weekly meeting with the Camp Directors to discuss potential student concerns, weigh in on staff decisions and develop leadership skills, as well as planning their own Annual CGST Contribution Project: An independent event or fundraising opportunity to take place outside of camp during the academic year that will serve to promote CGST and contribute to organization development in some way.
Additionally, CIT's will assist with clean up at the end of camp, staying later on the final Saturday until CGST is fully moved out of the dorms and theater. They also attend one full day and night of the staff orientation week, where they help to prepare camp for the incoming students.
There is no additional charge for the CIT program, even though they are on campus for an extra day.
Enrollment in the CIT program requires both a student application and a CIT Application. CITs are not guaranteed work in future summers as a camp counselor, but the training is designed to give these students a leg up for future employment.
