Staff - Camp Counselor Position
(Theatre Professional/Instructor/Kitchen Assistant)
Columbia Gorge School of Theatre & Columbia Gorge
Repertory Theatre
The Hardest Job You'll
Ever LOVE!
CGST is seeking eight Camp Counselors for our summer performing
arts camp. We need one or two males and six to seven females.
CCs need to be FLEXIBLE, fun,
responsible, patient, creative, self-motivated, and great
leaders.
CCs' duties are broken down into four areas: Theatre Production
Work, Camp Counseling, Kitchen Duties, and Teaching Theatre
Potpourri and Wild Card (outdoor activities).
The CCs have many duties and responsibilities including:
- The team of counselors is the production staff of the shows.
The production staff, lead by the Technical Director, is a
collaborative group with the many duties including: directing,
stage managing, guest acting, light designing/board operating,
sound designing, set designing/building, creating costumes and
musically playing the show. All counselors who wanted to
direct a show the last few years got to direct a show (or two!)
Campers also have production duties.
- Staying in the cabin with the students and supervising them
at night. Camp Counselors are responsible for the campers 24
hours a day. CPR, First Aid, and Life Guard training and
experience are ideal, though training is provided, if necessary.
Life Guards are always sought, as are Guitarists. CCs
also work closely with the Camp Director to develop activities
for the campers. Activities might include hiking, tie dyeing,
arts & crafts, swimming, softball, volleyball, etc.
- CCs have kitchen duties including helping prepare and clean
after meals. Kitchen duties are on a rotating basis (usually 2 -
3 times a week for counselors). Washing dishes is an important
part of the job.
- Most CCs are instructors, as well. They teach Theatre
Potpourri electives: stage combat, Suzuki, masks, tai chi, mime,
improv, stand up comedy, Alexander, Grotowski, martial arts,
acrobatics, theatre history, directing, speech, Linklater voice,
Lessac, Skinner, yoga, playwriting, Shakespeare, tech, puppetry,
etc. Teaching experience is a plus. Please indicate on your
application which theatrical electives you are able to teach.
They also teach Wild Card, which is a class that could include a
hike, volleyball, jewelry making, nap time - you name it!
- CCs must be positive role models, have great attitudes, and
be flexible. Creativity, a love of theatre, and enthusiasm are
vital. Camp experience is a plus. Theatrical experience is a
must. BFA/BA students are ideal. CCs must be at least 20 years
old, though we prefer them to be 21 or older, so that they can
safely drive students in staff vehicles.
For the above, the Camp Counselors receive:
- Up to a $200 travel reimbursement.
A bunk in the cabin.
Food for the entire length of the contract on the campus
with the campers/staff.
- A weekly salary:
$125 - 150/week for non-drivers - 7 1/2 week contract
(generally age 20). $175 - 200/week for licensed drivers -
7 1/2 week contract (must be ages 21 or older)
- Lifeguards receive an additional $25/week.
- Many summer activities paid for, such as field trips.
You must be available from June 26 - August 15, 2005 to
be considered!
PLEASE NOTE, THE CAMP
COUNSELORS STAY IN THE ROOMS WITH THE
STUDENTS AT NIGHT, THUS LEADING TO LESS FREE TIME AND
LESS PRIVACY.
Camp Counselors MUST be extremely
flexible and patient!
Please mail & fax a resume and a completed
Staff Application
with three references. If you've already submitted a resume, please
send another highlighting theatrical, camp, outdoor, leadership, and
'day job' work experience. After we receive your application, a
personal or telephone interview will be necessary.
